Modern Life Is War
My Love. My Way. (Reissue)

The long awaited reissue of Modern Life Is War’s debut full length is finally available for the masses. Long out of print, “My Love. My Way.” was an instant classic and continues to gain acclaim through the success of their second full length “Witness”. “My Love. My Way.” was origionally released by Martyr Records which has since changed management and lost any momentum they gained from this incredible release.

One of the strongest points to be made about Modern Life Is War is the lyrics of their vocalist Jeff Eaton. If you thought their lyrics were good on “Witness” these ones are probably going to blow you away. Incredibly personal and full of angst these lyrics make this record a classic on their own. The music has definitely matured from “My Love. My Way.” to “Witness” while keeping the same general style, melodic with very few breakdowns, “Witness” has a tendency to stay in your head for days at a time but “My Love. My Way.” is still (very) arguably the better record.

The reissue features slight revisions to the original artwork, adding a new (but similar) cover and slightly revised liner notes. The entire record has been remastered and although the changes aren’t that significant (no remixing), they make it worth the second purchase if you own the first edition. The biggest difference being that the levels allow it to be listened to back to back with “Witness”. As a bonus the CD also has two tracks from Modern Life Is War’s debut 7” EP which also appear to be remastered, listening to these tracks is a telling tale as to why Martyr records took a chance on this little hardcore band from Iowa. A must own for any pretty much any hardcore fan.
